MrOptimization.com in sordid server separation

We decided to upgrade the MrOptimization.com server right as we were getting a burst of traffic from a pre-release of the new Multivariate Testing with Google Website Optimizer opus.

Not a good idea? There's a lesson in there somewhere....

New comments, new server

The new server says HI!

You're looking at it now. Everything's fine. New comments will be posted here, so fire away.

Previous comments slowly making their way over

When the old server realized what we were up to it said "HUH? Not so fast!"

In a fit of denial about our relationship coming to an end, it refused to give up all of the previously posted comments.

After talking it out we agreed that it's not fair to use the comments as a pawn, so they'll be making their way over in dribs and drabs soon.

You probably also noticed the discussion forum is off-line for its upgrade too. At least that one was planned.

Lessons learned

Don't take your digital infrastructure for granted and don't change it until you're 100% sure the new one is ready for a quick switch.

Fortunately, the best Multivariate Testing and Targeting technologies seamlessly switch between different infrastructures without so much as a hiccup. It's one of the things that makes Mutlivariate Testing and Targeting so irresistable.

Not to tease you, but you should also know that we've been getting in some good info on this exciting topic for a long time now and we'll have more on it soon...

You should know better than to make a server switch just before the big rush!

Hit me back for some new ops stories for your next article.

MVT vendor failures

This happened with our MVT vendor. Lights out for two days. Won't name names but we started switching. They all claim to be reliable but you can't really know until they have a problem unless you test first.
